Measurement Methods
To measure its primary objectives of reducing mortality rates for children and lowering fertility rates, Living Goods is implementing best of class randomized control-based research. LG is collaborating with the Poverty Action Lab (PAL) to conduct this work. In addition, Living Goods CHPs collects data from every household at the start of their activities on: ages of children, water source, latrine types, contraceptive method, bed net usage, healthcare spending, and cases of malaria and diarrhea. LG periodically re-measures these items to track trends and inform program strategy.
LG also keeps accurate count of the quantities of key commodities it distributes, in particular: water treatment, oral rehydration, malaria courses, insecticide treated nets, and contraceptive CYPs (Couple Years of Protection). LG health staff make random visits to clients to verify commodities are being used as intended and that proper instructions are provided.
